Shaykh Taha bin Hasan Abdul-Basser is an independent scholar of Islamic ethics and law who has acted as a shari`a compliance reviewer, examiner and consultant to investment funds, investment banks, retail banks, financial advisories, legal advisors and other for-profit and not-for-profit entities since 1998. He holds an M.A. in Arabic and Islamic Studies from Harvard University and a B.A. in Comparative Study of Religion, also from Harvard. At Harvard, he contributed to the Islamic Finance Information Program's database software, taught an independent study course on Islamic Finance principles at Harvard Business School, and served as Senior Tutorial Advisor at the Department of Near Eastern Language and Civilizations. He has benefited from several teachers (shuyūkh), including Shaykh Musa Madūrī of al-Azhar (Tanzania); the qaḍī and muftī, Shaykh Muḥammad al-Umrani (Sana`a), Shaykh Dr. Muhammad Ghunaym (Sana`a) and Shaykh Nizam Ya`qubī, from whom he has several licenses (ijāzāt).

Shaykh Faraz Rabbani spent ten years studying with some of the leading scholars of recent times, first in Damascus, and then in Amman, Jordan. His teachers include the foremost theologian of recent times in Damascus, the late Shaykh Adib al-Kallas, as well as his student Shaykh Hassan al-Hindi, one of the leading Hanafi fuqaha of the present age. He returned to Canada in 2007, where he founded SeekersGuidance in order to meet the urgent need to spread Islamic knowledge–both online and on the ground–in a reliable, relevant, inspiring, and accessible manner. Since 2011, Shaykh Faraz has been named one of the 500 most influential Muslims by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center.
